The piping system of an industrial boiler is central to the transport of working fluids (water, heat transfer oil, steam). Improper maintenance of the piping can lead to problems such as leaks, blockages, and corrosion, which can disrupt normal boiler operation and even cause safety incidents. Many operators neglect piping maintenance, resulting in frequent malfunctions. Below is a summary of the key points for maintaining industrial boiler piping—essential knowledge for everyone.

Key Point 1: Regularly inspect the integrity of pipe seals. Check pipe joints, valves, flanges, and other components daily for leaks (water, thermal oil, or steam). If a leak is detected, promptly repair the seals or tighten the joints to prevent waste of the working fluid and eliminate safety hazards. Regularly inspect pipe welds; if cracks or damage are found, weld and repair them immediately to prevent leaks from worsening.

Key Point 2: Regularly clear blockages from the pipes. After prolonged operation, pipelines accumulate scale, impurities, oil deposits, and other obstructions, which can impede the smooth circulation of the working fluid, reduce energy efficiency, and even cause pipeline ruptures. Clean the pipelines regularly: for steam and hot water boilers, remove scale from the pipelines every 3–6 months; for thermal oil boilers, remove oil deposits and impurities every 6–12 months. During cleaning, use descaling agents or high-pressure washing to ensure the pipelines remain unobstructed.

Key Point 3: Ensure proper pipe insulation and corrosion protection. If the pipe insulation is damaged or peeling, it will result in significant heat loss, reducing thermal efficiency and increasing operating costs; prolonged exposure to the air makes pipes susceptible to corrosion, shortening their service life. Routinely inspect the pipe insulation, and if it is damaged or peeling, repair or replace it promptly; Apply anti-corrosion treatment to the outer walls of the pipes and coat them with anti-rust paint to prevent oxidation and corrosion; during winter, implement frost protection measures by insulating the pipes to prevent them from freezing and bursting.

Key Point 4: Inspect pipe fastenings and vibration levels. If pipes are not securely fastened, vibration during operation can cause joints to loosen and pipes to break; severe vibration can also affect the stability of the boiler itself. Regularly inspect the pipe support brackets. If any brackets are loose, tighten them promptly; increase the number of support brackets to reduce pipe vibration; and install vibration-damping pads on the pipes to mitigate vibration-induced damage.

Key Point 5: Regularly inspect the operational status of valves. Valves on the pipes (such as globe valves, gate valves, and check valves) are critical for controlling the flow of the working fluid. Valve malfunctions can lead to working fluid leaks and abnormal flow rates. Regularly check the opening and closing status of valves to ensure they operate smoothly without jamming or seizing; inspect valve seals and replace them promptly if damaged; lubricate valves regularly to prevent component wear and ensure proper operation.

Note: Pipeline maintenance should follow the principles of “regular inspection, timely cleaning, and proper protection.” During daily patrols, focus on checking for leaks and vibrations in the pipelines, and conduct comprehensive maintenance periodically to prevent pipeline failures from affecting boiler operation.
